Training ship Jack Petchey on the Thames

I spotted the Sea Cadets' training ship Jack Petchey as she sailed passed North Greenwich today.

The ship became operational in 2010 and has berths for 16 cadets.

Another video of a regular visiter on the Thames. This is the dredger, City of London, that docks two or three times a week to offload sand at the Tarmac facilities.

Salvage Barge Crossness

Here is a very short video of the Salvage Barge Crossness passing the Greenwich Peninsula.

The vessel was involved in the rescue of a trapped whale in 2006.  Here is its Shipspotting page.

Narrow boats on the Thames passing through the Barrier

I spotted a few narrow boats passing through the Thames Barrier yesterday and recorded the event with my new Canon EOS 650D camera. I've edited the clip heavily, so I hope that makes it less boring.

 

Paddle steamer Elizabethan

I got my new Canon 650D yesterday and I tried my hand at some videos. We occasionally see the Elizabethan, a restaurant boat sail past our house and I took the opportunity to make a short video of it.

It is operated by Thames Luxury charters and takes tourists to the Thames Barrier every few weeks.

This was my first published video recorded on my Canon 650D DSLR and I am still practising. I used my Canon EOS EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM lens for this. I found that it was reasonably easy to capture the video, even at the full 300mm zoom. However, the camera does seem to hunt for focus sometimes.
